Essay on the Camera
"Photography" is derived from the Greek words photos "light" and graphein "to draw". The word was first used by the scientist Sir John F.W. Herschel in 1839. It is a method of recording images by the action of light, or related radiation, on a sensitive material.
On a summer day in 1827, it took eight hours for Joseph Nicephore Niepce to obtain the first photograph. About the same time a fellow Frenchman, Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre was experimenting to find a way to capture an image.
Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre, inventor of the first practical process of photography, was born near Paris, France on November 18, 1789. A professional scene painter for the opera, Daguerre began experimenting with the effects of light upon translucent paintings in the 1820s. In 1829, he formed a partnership with Joseph Nicephore Niepce to improve the process Niepce had developed to take the first permanent photograph in 1826-1827.

Blitzlichtpulver or flashlight powder was invented in Germany in 1887 by Adolf Miethe and Johannes Gaedicke, they are two more inventors that obtained photograph. Lycopodium powder (the waxy spores from club moss) was used in early flash powder.

In this time photographs were using a pewter plate and bitumen. This plate was then exposed to light. Since the bitumen hardened where the light struck, the unhardened areas were dissolved away. This left a visible image. Since the lens closed very slowly the object that the photographer wished to obtain had to stay very still in order to not make the shot blurry. If you notice in most pictures in the old days the people are not smiling because they had to hold that position for a very long period of time.
The first camera was a large box that captured light. It took hours to develop the picture because the picture went through many different types of changes. I think the history of the camera is important. The camera is such a big part in our society that I thought it would be a good idea to explain its history.
FUN FACT: Adams was the first president to be photographed!

I like this photo because it has depth. The trees in the background and the end of the site show the depth in this photo. This photograph shows a large area, one that is being occupied by one man. He is positioned on a diagonal in the photo. If you cut the photograph, into thirds you can see that the man and the hole next to him are the main focuses. There are many of these holes but they have been filled in. we can not however tell why the man is digging and who he is just from this photo. Over all I think that this is a great photo because it follows the rules of photography.

The Internet Now and Then

Every week hundreds of thousands of adults and high school students use the internet. They use it for all kinds of things. Some use it to find out assignments for school, some use it to talk to their friends. What ever they do teens in 2008 use the internet, a lot even more than adults.

One way I use the internet is to keep in touch with friends through e-mail. Once or twice a day I check my e-mail on AOL. I talk to my friends from camp, and even friends in school. If I am working on a group project I e-mail information to my group members. The internet is one way I stay close with my friends. My dad uses e-mail only for work; he only e-mails associates and partners. He also does not use his e-mail at home. My mom on the other hand hardly ever uses her e-mail. When she does she e-mails only a few close friends.

Another way I use the internet is to see the assignments in my classes. My school uses Edline to help students. Teaches post the assignments for their class and update it everyday. We create accounts so we can get in contact with teachers if we need help. Our teachers also e-mail our parents if your grades are low, this way parents are not kept in the dark. This internet site helps students, parents, and faculty keep in touch. My dad is one of the many parents signed up for Edline. He gets all the updates in my grades and is notified when there are after school programs.
I use Google to help me find many different things. It is a quick and easy way to find web sites. I use it to help me find pictures for projects. It helps me find out information about the authors and their books we read in class. I use Google for so many things I can’t cont. If I can not find something I go to Google and I will find it. My parents use Google as well to find things for themselves.

I use itunes music store excessively to see what new song is hot or to see what happened in the TV show I missed. I buy hundreds of songs and I have many TV shows in my itunes library. I know for one thing that my parents never use itunes my dad does not even have an ipod and my mom got her songs from CDs.

In conclusion high school students use the internet more than adults. My family does not use the internet much besides me. I use it for lots of things but I use it safely and the I the most important thing of all.

Review of to Pictures

Picture #1 was a picture of hurracane Ike. This picture shows depth by the trees extending toward the back of the photo. The picture tells a story of rescures saving survivers from the flood. The water comes up above the peoples nees and it comes up high on the stop sign, both of these obervations show the hight of the water.
Picture #2 was a picture of West Side story. The way the light hits the woman shows she is leading the man, she is in control in that moment. They are running through a street of NY. The buildings stretch back to the end of the frame, this shows depth.
